Make your card

For the situations where you cannot explain it yourself: an ambulance, a hospital admission, a reaction that has already started. Fill this in and print it. Nothing you type leaves your device.

Hospital card

Alpha-gal syndrome

Your name

Diagnosis
Alpha-gal syndrome (mammalian meat allergy), an IgE-mediated allergy to galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose. Tick-induced.
Must avoid
All mammalian meat and mammal-derived products.
Adrenaline
I carry an adrenaline autoinjector.
Other
None recorded.
Specialist
Not recorded.
Emergency contact
Not recorded.
For clinicians: reactions to ingested alpha-gal are characteristically delayed by 2 to 10 hours, so a recent meal history may not be obvious. Please check mammal-derived content in medications, capsules, gelatine-containing products and infusions before administration.TODO: clinical reviewer to confirm this wording, and advise which specific products should be named here

Where to put them

  • The wallet card goes with your bank cards, not loose in a bag. That is where paramedics look.
  • The hospital card goes in your bag, your glovebox, and with anything you would take to an admission.
  • Ask your GP to record the diagnosis in My Health Record, and consider medical alert jewellery as well, since a card is no use if your wallet is not with you.
  • If you have an ASCIA Action Plan, keep it with your adrenaline device. The card does not replace it.

Draft content, not yet clinically reviewed. The clinician-facing wording on the hospital card in particular must be signed off before this is published.
